The equipment and tools we rely on daily in the workplace constantly evolve to provide time efficiency and performance when tackling the task at hand. The humble paint brush is no exception.
The evolution of synthetic brush fibres changed the game when using water-based paints, yet most paint brushes remained flat and square in profile.
As time has progressed the science of synthetic filaments has opened a whole world of performance benefits which in turn are now leading to the emergence of ‘shape-led’ brush developments.
Historically, brushes for painting trim were essentially just smaller versions of those flat brushes used for painting larger areas, but the introduction of oval brushes offered a productivity improvement in painting profiled surfaces such as skirting boards, architraves or sash window frames.
Oval brushes seem arguably to be a well-kept secret, but the tapered nature of the bristles means it’s much easier to paint profiled and angled surfaces. The filament conforms better to the contours of the surface you’re painting than a rectangular shaped brush, giving less missed spots and requiring fewer strokes. The oval profile also offers more control and cleaner lines, both of which are also critical to delivering an excellent finish.
These last two performance points are also achievable using a cutting-in brush. With bristles at an angle – a simple but highly effective design detail – you’re able to apply paint with greater precision, allowing for even greater control painting along edges and adjoining surfaces.
Both the modern oval and particularly cutting-in styles have proved popular with our customers, and this has spurred us on to go one step further and craft a brush we believe represents the very best of these two worlds.
Into the Ice Fusion collection of cutting-edge tools comes the new Angle Oval, which combines the moulding performance of the oval brush with the superb lines of the cutting-in brushes.
Imagine it in sporting terms, say the international performances of David Beckham and Harry Kane. Both complementing each other’s strengths, the oval being Beckham, forever finding space and dealing skilfully with any obstructions to provide goal opportunities, while the cutting-in aspect is reflective of Kane, constantly converting those assists with precision and accuracy.
Those modifications in bristle type and structure are all there to see in one beautiful, paint stroke, all brought together in the Angle Oval brush design.
Add to this the other key elements which make Ice Fusion brushes so desirable – Shard Filaments (which allow for paint to load and release incredibly smoothly), Form Recovery Technology (maintains the brush’s shape) and a seamless ferrule (no watery streaks) – and you have the kind of brush that adds up to a compelling offer for the modern painter decorator.
Ever since taking on the paint brush mantle well over half a century back, ProDec has been committed to developing the very best brushes for our customers, always on the lookout for how to help people do their jobs better, faster or both. We think the Ice Fusion Angle Oval range well and truly ticks those boxes.
